Disappearing Forest
Wyming Brook, Peak District National Park
This print is about grief. I have been avoiding for quite a while to really put a finger on this healing wound. I will not make it justice but at least I can try.
Just over three years ago someone very dear to me has passed away. I felt the grief in many situations but one of them was being in the familiar landscapes previously shared with this person, cherished memories becoming incredibly painful. The places so loved in the past were hard to enjoy again, when memories of the good times flooded in.
I found similar feelings in a forest that has been devastated by a disease and many trees had to be cut down. This was visible, tangible change that wasn't just inside me. And the sadness of loss was there for everyone to see, not just my personal loss colouring the perfect landscape. I could touch the stumps and the cut marks. I could see the piles of tree trunks left in place.
This print is the piece of a tree bark, found right next to the tree stump (see print 800 marked/Cut marks) with the tell tale mark, for the tree to be cut down. Slightly faded by the weather, bright pink sprayed circle.
